Fleetwood Mac's self-titled 1975 album remains one of popular music's great turning points, a record born from uncertainty that reshaped the band and pop-rock itself. Personnel drama, commercial doubts and a chance encounter led Mick Fleetwood to Sound City Studios, where hearing Buckingham Nicks quite literally changed everything. What followed was a rebirth: Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joining as a creative package, inspiring new melodic ambition and songwriting depth into a group in transition. Fleetwood Mac would use this album to catapult them to one of the most successful bands of all time. Mobile Fidelity's numbered-edition hybrid SACD does full justice to this landmark. Sourced from the original analog master tapes, it presents the album with the finest digital version possible. The interplay between the five musicians is vivid and tactile, from the addictive groove of 'World Turning' to the shimmering vocal blend on 'Over My Head'. Buckingham's crisp guitar work, McVie's grounded rhythm touch and Nicks' mystical presence combine to create something unique for the time. Songs like 'Monday Morning', 'Rhiannon', 'Landslide' and 'I'm So Afraid' sound timeless here. Christine McVie's contributions elevate the album, spurred by friendly internal competition as the calming force in the band. Though Rumours would eclipse it commercially, Fleetwood Mac became the turning moment of discovery and risk-taking.
