Rare Lenny Bruce Club Recordings 1965

This tape captures Lenny Bruce doing one of his well-known monologues "Mask Man". Although he was known to perform this on numerous occasions...at least part of the sound from this specific tape was used in the production of the cult classic animated short "Thank You Mask Man". The short was created by "Imagination Inc" / San Francisco. Their label is on the box in which this tape was found. The name Rick Scott is also written on the box. Scott's name is shown in the credits of "Thank You Mask Man" if you ever have the chance to view it online.

Lenny Bruce didn't live to see the completion of the animated short. He died in 1966. His audio was recorded in 1965. The animation wasn't finished until 1968 and the project wasn't released until 1969.

The audio of "Mask Man" is found at the far end of the 35-40 minute reel. I believe there may be some parts from the original "Mask Man" sound recording that were edited out to best fit the animated "cartoon". But perhaps rarer than that is the first 25 minutes of recordings that feature Lenny Bruce touching on many hot-button issues like religion and races including Blacks, Jews, Catholics & Christians, Mexicans ~ and I'm sure I heard the word "faggots" used at least once. To understand the back-story on how this tape came into existence you might want to view "Interview With Thank You Mask Man producer John Magnuson" - also on youtube.
