Recorded on July 30 1970, just two months, before, his death, at the age of 27, this album, captures Hendrix, Billy Cox, and Mitch Mitchell creating music on a quite epic scale. Something is seriously going on here. I don't know if its, the acoustics, playing in a volcano, or the fact that the majority of the 100 plus people, including the band, were probably tripping balls, but I have honestly never heard Hendrix perform, on this scale. There are times when it really does feel, as though, the band, have indeed, broken through to the other side. Highlights? Too many to mention, the slow, soulful blues, that is Hear Ma Train a Coming, followed by a blistering Voodoo Child, or my personal favourite, the mellow, Hey Baby, New Rising Sun
This album is truly on a different planet. If you desire peace, and a reminder of what we can be, when, we come together to share life, then this is truly one of those life affirming moments.
