This is an auction for a VHS tape recorded by Burt Goldblatt documenting two performances by Buddy Rich & brief images of Art Blakey on stage at Birdland in 1961 #E-179 NEGATIVE found in the collection of the famous photographer, author and Jazz album cover designer Burt Goldblatt. In the 1960s besides his legnedary photography, Burt Goldblatt did some video recording of live performances or studio sessions using an 8mm movie camera. UNFORTUNATELY, THESE 8MM RECORDINGS DID NOT HAVE ANY SOUND. In the 1980s, Burt had several of these 8mm reel-to-reel tape converted to VHS. Due to the original format, these tapes range in 7 to 15 minutes in length and sometimes reflect issues with the original 8mm tape, and they DO NOT HAVE SOUND. In some cases, Burt actually took a previously recorded VHS tape and recorded over it. As a result, these VHS tapes reflect some 1960's 8mm performances that have a quality I would evalutate as in poor to good only, but for a serious Jazz fan, they are still of great interest with rare images of Jazz greats. I only acquired 6 of these VHS tapes and they are being sold on ebay this week. Mr Goldblatt's work for major Jazz record labels of the golden age of Jazz in 1950's and 1960's documented the era's legendary musicians and many of his work or items owned by him will be featured in the coming weeks.
