DVD: Tool 96kHz/24bit High-Res DVD-A Lateralus The Holy Gift
This is intended for those who have a DVD player and a good stereo. This will play in both standard DVD/Blu-ray and DVD-Audio players. The source is the 96kHz/24bit FLAC files. The sound quality is currently UNMATCHED, anywhere! This disc will BLOW AWAY ALL OTHER FORMS of this album, including the CD and double-LP! Plus, this is the EXTREMELY UNIQUE and AMAZING experience of the Lateralus album, called "THE HOLY GIFT."
"The Holy Gift" is actually the band's 2001 effort "Lateralus," but with a special song order organized to match the Fibonacci sequence.
As you might know, the Fibonacci sequence is a string of numbers beginning with 0 and 1 (or 1 and 1), where every next member in the sequence equals to the sum of the previous two numbers. So - 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, etc.
On the song "Lateralus," the sequence can be found within the title track when you look at the syllables Maynard is singing:
Black [1]
Then [1]
White are [2]
All I see [3]
In my infancy [5]
Red and yellow then came to be [8]
Reaching out to me [5]
Lets me see [3]
There is [2]
So [1]
Much [1]
More and [2]
Beckons me [3]
To look through to these [5]
Infinite possibilities [8]
As below so above and beyond I imagine [13]
Drawn outside the lines of reason [8]Push the envelope [5]Watch it bend [3]
Although the Fibonacci sequence doesn't go backward by definition, it's still clear that it's present in the tune, and reaches peak at 13, the number of songs on the album.
So the "secret" of "The Holy Gift" is supposedly organizing the songs in a pair of spirals with number 13 in the middle. The first pair of the sequence is "Parabol," + "Parabola," tracks No. 6 and 7 (13/2 = 6.5), the latter of which features a line saying "Recognize this as a holy gift."
A fan who listened to "The Holy Gift" noted: "The transition from 'Parabola' into 'Schism' blew my mind, as the plucks, probably dismissed by listeners as a drawn out rant of an ending, perfectly transition into the beginning of 'Schism.'
"When you count out beats as the strings are plucked, 'Schism' resumes with the same time signature and tempo - mirroring the progression of notes. The transition from 'Schism' into 'Ticks & Leeches' is equally intriguing. 'Schism' ends with strong double-kick bass and tom smacks, and 'Ticks & Leeches' begins with what many would call a 'tribal' drumbeat.
"The beat at the very start of 'Ticks & Leeches' is slightly different every subsequent time it is repeated - the measures are two beats longer. Yup - you guessed it - those two beats are ACTUALLY the last two beats of 'Schism.' I can honestly say that I never understood the album's fourth track, 'Mantra,' until reordering the album's songs. What I had originally heard as whale calls now had begun to resemble the worst imaginable dryheaves - or a stylized choking.
"Fitting, seeing as how the last line in 'Ticks & Leeches' is 'I hope you choke.' After this transition, none of those following it really seemed to make much sense. I certainly didn't like that 'Disposition' and 'Reflection' had been separated - as they sound quite good when played sequentially on the album."
So the final track order is 6, 7, 5, 8, 4, 9, 13, 1, 12, 2, 11, 3, 10, or [6,7] [5,8] [4,9] [13] [1,12] [2,11] [3,10], which is a "triad" of pairs divided by a split - or "schism" - in the middle ("schism" is defined as a "a split or division between strongly opposed sections or parties, caused by differences in opinion or belief.")
These Hi-Res FLAC files are PHENOMENAL for those equipped to play them through their systems. Unfortunately, many people still have older hi-fi systems. If this is the case, here is your chance to hear this album in its UNMATCHED GLORY in DVD-Audio 96kHz/24bit Stereo!!!!!
Includes, in THIS specific order:
1 Parabol
2 Parabola
3 Schism
4 Ticks & Leeches
5 Mantra
6 Lateralus
7 Faaip de Oiad
8 The Grudge
9 Triad
10 Eon Blue Apocalypse
11 Reflection
12 The Patient
13 Disposition
Ultimately, for the right person, this is a GOLDMINE for hearing this album in the best possible way at this time.
And, if you've never heard or experienced THE HOLY GIFT, you owe it to yourself to check this out, regardless of the supreme audio quality here. This reordering is SO MUCH BETTER than the standard Lateralus, as it was released, that it's rather unbelievable. It is the ONLY way that I ever listen to the album anymore. It will BLOW YOUR MIND!
Enjoy!
