There are 2 small paper-punched holes at top edge that were punched so as to put handbill in a 2-ring binder (There is a small amount of surface paper loss to one side of handbill around the 2 punched-holes where reinforcement stick-on’s had been removed on one side, not bad at all, see pictures, On the plus side the handbill having been stored in the binder at one time has helped to protect the handbill from damage and keep it in very nice condition. There is one very light crease where the handbill has been folded in half horizontally, and one very light crease where it has been folded vertically, not bad at all, barely noticeable when displayed. There are 6 very small staple holes at top of handbill. See photos to check condition for yourself. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.
I was very fortunate to come across a collection of these original vintage Apollo Theatre handbills from the late 1930s to middle 1940s; these handbills belonged to a newspaper reporter (whom I assume was sent the handbills so he could put ads in the newspaper for the shows) the reporter worked the Newark Star Eagle newspaper which in 1939 merged with the Newark Ledger to become the Newark Star-Ledger. The newspaper dropped Newark from its master-head sometime in the 1970s, but it is still called the Newark Star-Ledger by many New Jersey residents. If you are interested in any particular artist or group that may have performed at the Apollo Theatre during this period(late 1930s through mid-1940s) please contact me through Ebay; and if I have any handbills with that artist or group on it I will put it up for sale on Ebay (some of the other handbills that I will be putting up for sale have 2 paper-punched holes for a two-ring binder and some do not, all are in very good plus to excellent condition).
Also an item that was included in the collection of Apollo handbills that I bought was an original typed article by the reporter at Newark Star Eagle newspaper about the death of the band leader Chick Webb dated June 30, 1939, titled (“Swing” Muted at Webb Rites – Ella Fitzgerald to sing “My Buddy”)this typed article is not included in this sale, but I have included a picture of it in this sale listing just because I found it of interest and thought perhaps you may also find it of interest, I may sell this article in a future listing, but it is not included in this sale. In this article Jimmie Lunceford is listed as an honorary pallbearer along with many other famous musicians of the time.
