Phil Collins - The Essential Going Back - Sealed Gatefold 180g Vinyl LP

The Phil Collins reissue campaign continues with 1989’s ‘…But Seriously’ (which features many of Collins’ biggest hits and was one of its era’s biggest selling albums) and 2010’s “Going Back” 2010 with ‘Going Back’ (which represented his first studio album since 2002’s ‘Testify’ and was a personal labour of love project that found him faithfully recreating the soul gems that played such an influential role in his musical life). Entirely curated and compiled by Collins himself, his idea for each reissue was to examine how his songs have evolved over time, with the majority of the additional content throughout these releases focused on live versions of the tracks. By contrasting the original studio versions of the material with later performances, the series demonstrates how Collins’ songs take on a life of their own once they’re freed from the confines of the studio. CD2 of “…But Seriously” contains 13 tracks made up of B-sides, live tracks and demos. For the “Going Back” reissue, Collins felt that “in retrospect, I included too much music on the original version, and I believe that too much is not always a good thing. Hence this trimmed down selection of my favourite Motown songs.” Therefore, this abridged track list features Collins’ essential 14 tracks from the original album, with a second disc of live versions available on CD for the first time. The vinyl format of “…But Seriously” mirrors that of the original album, while the vinyl of “The Essential Going Back” includes the 14 tracks which make up CD1 of this new edition.
