I remember driving up from a Chicago suburb to Fontana, Wisconsin, near Lake Geneva, to see this concert in the summer of 1969 in my 1968 Mustang. My first road trip! I remember standing in the front row in a circus tent, watching the Happenings perform. There were no chairs. I looked over to the stage entry door (actually a canvas flap!) and saw Gene Pitney standing there watching the group perform. When he saw me look over, he nodded to me and smiled. I was so over the moon! Hey, I was just a teenager then, but his acknowledgement meant so much to me at the time. Great concert all around!
