Original 1st printing 8" x 5" concert handbill for Big Brother & the Holding Company featuring Janis Joplin appearing at the Men's Gym on the campus of Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA on 5/10/1968.
While very similar to the piece shown in The Art of Rock as Plate Number 3.11, this handbill advertised a show held on May 10, 1968 at the Cal Poly Men’s Gym. The main image is the same as AOR 3.11, but the lettering is quite different.
Design by Donald Kay, a similar image (from a show in Davis from a week later (5/17) is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 259 (plate 3.11).
Thin flat stock handbill is in mint/near mint condition; an absolutely STUNNING example of this semi-uncommon Big Brother/Janis piece from mid-1968 with virtually no flaws to speak of.
Will be carefully boxed and insured.
