"THE PEEKSKILL STORY" Leftie History! Documentary Recording With Music! 1949 E

HERE'S A SOUVENIR from one of the most fraught periods in American History, only rivaled by today's headlines: "THE PEEKSKILL STORY." In words and music, told and sung by PETE SEEGER, HOWARD FAST, LEE HAYS and others, this record covers the infamous 1949 riot in Peekskill, New York, when PAUL ROBESON and other artists and performers, and a large appreciative crowd, were met by an equally large, angry bunch of armed, picket-carrying, stone-throwing, yelling and screaming "America Firsters." This ugly incident was widely covered in the press and on radio.

But this record is perhaps the pithiest and most poignant relic, a digest of those happenings, with "live" You-Are-There moments, artistically edited together into song and story by producer MARIO CASSETTA. I knew Mario in the 1970s, when he was the "Old Ethnic" at KPFK-FM in North Hollywood. He held the fort for Folk Music over there - and even had me on his show a couple of times!

This original 1949 vinylite Charter C-502 is in nice E condition - better shape than most of the people who struggled out of there!!

PHOTOS: VIEWS OF THE PEEKSKILL RIOTS: 1) the angry mob; 2) Rioters destroy a car; 3) Seven cops and a Black man; 4) Paul Robeson and chorus. There's a lot more where these came from.

*****

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
