THE HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS PRESSING: A CENSORSHIP ANOMALY
This is not a standard 1966 copy of Jefferson Airplane Takes Off. This is a verified "Transition State 1" master—a rare audio document of the chaotic week in late 1966 when RCA Victor censored the band's debut album.
THE TIMELINE: In August 1966, RCA released the album with 12 tracks. Almost immediately, executives panicked over suggestive lyrics in "Let Me In" and drug references in "Runnin' 'Round This World." They ordered the factories to stop production, delete "Runnin' 'Round This World" entirely, and re-record/edit the lyrics to "Let Me In" and "Run Around."
THE ERROR: This specific copy was pressed during that transition. While the labels and jacket were updated to show the new 11-track sequence, the physical vinyl was pressed using the original, unedited "State 1" Master Tapes. This means you are getting the raw, uncensored studio takes housed in the "censored" 11-track packaging.

THE PHYSICAL TRACKLIST ANOMALIES: While the label and jacket list a standard sequence, the audio in these grooves follows a mismatched "Error Sequence" unique to this transition run:
• Side 1, Track 2 ("Let Me In"): Features the rarest UNCENSORED vocal take. You will hear the original lyrics: "I wanna be there / You shut your door now it ain’t there"—a version much rawer than the common "I gotta get in, you know where" edit found on later pressings.
• Side 2, Track 2 ("Run Around"): This is the primary anomaly of the set. While the label clearly lists this as "Run Around," the audio pressed here is actually the unedited take of "Don't Slip Away." It features the specific "We used to dance without a care" lyric and the extended intro: "Almost been a year since we've been together."
• Side 2, Track 6: The final song on the side is the conclusion of the "And I Like It" session. Unlike the standard 11-track version which uses a short edit, this pressing features the full, unedited blues arrangement. The tempo shifts into a heavy, slow blues crawl with the rare concluding lyrics: "This is my life, I'm satisfied, so watch it babe."
PROVENANCE: This is part of the estate of my best friend of 42 years who passed away on April 27th from non-hodgkin lymphoma. Like me, Jeff was a serious collector of music in his younger days. While I grew up in Los Angeles, he grew up in San Francisco and most of his "estate" is SF and early rock based. Most of his albums are all first state, original releases, and some are rare anomalies. I will be slowly listing the albums from his estate, and all final proceeds will go to Jeff's family. Because I am a collector myself, I don't just "look" at records — I play test them (when they aren't sealed!). This is a premier collector's copy. The jacket is a stunning, high-gloss survivor with the RCA "Nipper" logo and exceptionally minimal corner edgewear, no splits, no peeling. The vinyl is the original heavy 1966 stock and has been professionall cleaned on my VPI HW-17 record cleaner. Play-testing confirms this is the rare audio variant that collectors spend years searching for. It has been stored vertically in a smoke-free, temperature-controlled environment, and is guaranteed to be the genuine article as described.
