Visual description
The vinyl is in excellent condition with a lovely glossy sheen and very little marking. Under a bright light I can only see a small number of faint hairlines and one very tiny scratch on S1. S2 has a couple of very minor faint scuffs but you have to look hard to find them! The run out grooves are very clean and the stickered red / plum labels are in superb order with no marking and hardly any spindle wear.
Play Grading
The run in on S1 is so clean, free of any static, and the 'Black Dog' intro with Page 'warming up his guitar' plays very clearly with only three very light background ticks. Plant's opening stand alone vocal is perfect and as Page enters the audio is so powerful and deep. The next vocal is perfect and the only real interference is five clicks / ticks is during the first quieter Oh Oh vocal passage. The remainder of this classic plays with supreme power and definition and Page's end solo is a fine example of that with no distortion whatsoever. The fade out has no background at all. I would grade this as Near Mint for the majority but with a brief VG- section.
'Rock And Roll' plays with STUNNING audio from start to finish with no intrusion. The percussive opening is 'as new' and that pretty much applies to the entire track, I noticed only one minor static. The power and depth of the audio is up there with the very best - the sonic quality is on another level. You can easily hear the piano on the final third which is a good measure of the clarity on offer here, it is very clear in fact. There is no 'muddiness' to the sound and Bonham's final foray followed by Page play perfectly. This is easily a Mint- version.
The quiet build up on 'The Battle Of Evermore' plays beautifully with not so much as a dust tick, seriously it is 'as new'! Plant's opening vocal section is just as clean and Denny's first vocal is just as impressive. It continues to impress on every level with no background of any kind. The clarity and warmth of the audio is outstanding and there is no distortion on the vocal which you often find. The audio separation is high end, every note so clean and precise and through to the end it plays with impeccable quality. I mean the Bring it back vocal near the end is incredible and the long fade out has no intrusion either. It does not get any better than this, the definitive version. Mint
The acoustic intro on the classic 'Stairway To Heaven' plays with sublime clarity, rarely do you hear it play with such stunning precision. The opening two verses play beautifully as does Page's first stumming section. The first It makes me wonder vocal plays perfectly and the third verse is as good as the first two! There is just a hint of minor static during the next It makes me wonder... vocal but it is so so quiet and 99/100 would not mention it, 3/4 seconds at most! The next verse again has zero intrusion as does the following instrumental and as Bonham comes in the audio is exceptional! This entire section is so warm and deep and I cannot fault the clarity. There is such depth to the music and the following two verses play to the same high end standard. Page's 'strumming' section has only minimal static distortion (when does it not!) and his next solo then plays with STUNNING power and definition. Plant's high octane vocal is superb - there is no discernible distortion (a rarity in itself) and the instrumental work is sublime. Turn it up to max, you lose none of the original sonic quality, and the final quiet Stairway To Heaven vocal is as clean as the first day it was released 50+ years ago! Not even one solitary dust tick. This classic ranges between Near Mint and Mint but veers more towards the latter that's for sure! It's a stunning version and is unequivocally one of the finest I have ever heard.

The intro on 'Misty Mountain Hop' has only one minor static and then plays with great power and depth and no interference. There is just a minimal amount of vocal distortion but it is not intrusive in any way, maybe I just need a new stylus! The instrumental sections play with genuine quality but yes there are no ticks, clicks or pops so I will say Near Mint- overall.
The intro on 'Four Sticks' is faultless. The opening vocal has three ticks but they are quiet and and the first high powered section is superb. From then on it plays so well and on a 'clean' vinyl like this you really notice the depth and warmth of the audio. The 'keyboard' section as you approach the end is phenomenal and the final vocal is of the same standard. A fine version with only those three light ticks for company so again Near Mint- is a fair assessment of the audio. The long fade out plays perfectly by the way.
The quiet intro on 'Going To California' plays perfectly (you can easily hear Plant's single breath!) and the first vocal is equally as good. The first acoustic bridge has no background and the next vocal again plays with sublime clarity. It continues to play with stunning quality for a relatively quiet track and the closing instrumental / vocal fade out is a case in point. Superb! Mint-
The percussive intro on the classic 'When The Levee Breaks' is perfect and the next section has only minimal inner groove distortion. As any Led Zepp aficionado knows that said distortion is always an issue with this track. However, as the intro progresses the audio just gets better and better! Plant's first vocal is very clean and it progresses in much the same way. There is a little more distortion during the first 'louder' vocal but from then on the audio is very impressive with not too much distortion. There are no clicks or pops and overall Ex is about right.
The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve
The iconic cover is in superb condition with no obvious wear. The edges have hardly any rubbing and the wide spine is still very clean and strong albeit slightly angled - it has very little wear on the bottom corner and just a little more at the top. The right hand corners are in superb shape and the opening edge has hardly any handling wear. The front cover is stunning without any marking and just one very small corner crease top left and the back cover is near perfect with only one barely noticeable corner rub bottom left. The inside of the gatefold is for once unbelievably clean with barely any of the fading / spotting that you regularly see - it is stunning! This is one fine example!
At first glance the original lyric inner looks great! It is unmarked and has no creasing but yes it does have the almost obligatory large split on the bottom edge and one other small edge split. The good news is that they are clean splits and therefore not really noticeable. Another point of note is how clean the flipbacks and corners - they have no wear and remain in superb condition.
