Description
[Jazz]
The Saints and Sinners in Europe. [Germany?]: 1968. 8¼” x 5¾”. Stapled wrappers. [8] pp. Near fine with a hairline crease to lower right corner.
The Saints and Sinners first performed in 1960. According to Manfred Selchow in Ding! Ding! (Westoverledingen Germany, self published, 1998), “Charles 'Red' Richards was offered the opportunity to lead his own band by the booking agent Lou Posey who also handled Billy Maxted and Muggsy Spanier. Posey owned Ciro's in Columbus, OH, and had connections with the Sheraton chain. Richards asked his buddy Vic Dickenson (the two had known each other since 1937) to become co-leader of the group.” This a program for their European tour in March and April 1968. It features photos and biographies (in English and German) of the band members. This is Dickenson's own copy as we explain more fully below.
Provenance: acquired directly from Vic Dickenson's estate, this a duplicate of Dickenson's archive that we'll be offering in the near future. Dickenson's affairs were managed by his niece, Victorita Thompson, who apparently ended up with several generations of her family's belongings. It all ended up in a storage unit in rural Ohio, purchased by a picker, who sold us the Dickenson material.
