Hosted by a the eminent music writer Ralph Gleason, this San Fransisco produced show is packed with the people who were instrumental in setting the standard for modern jazz. From Louie Armstrong and John Coltrane to Gerry Mulligan and Paul Winter's Quartet, Gleason let's the stars choose their music for the program and then will talk to the leader about their take on the genre. "Jazz Casual" doesn't just feature instrumentalists, Carmen McRae - Mel Torme - Lambert, Hendricks and Bavan - Jimmy Rushing and Jimmy Witherspoon, vocalize with great aplomb.
The "Jazz Casual" box set is an ALL REGIONS set of DVD's taken from high-end (for the time) black & white video tape sources. An early Public Television station, KQED, produced the series with great care and it shows through to this day.
