ORIGINAL REPRISE RECORDS 7 ½ IPS 4-TRACK STEREO 7" REEL TAPE

THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE ~ ELECTRIC LADYLAND (1968)

INCREDIBLY RARE 1 REEL TWIN PAK TAPE EDITION EQUIVALENT TO TWO LP DISCS

~ Before placing a bid, please make sure to attentively read our updated international shipping policy ~

Incredibly rare Reprise Records reel-to-reel tape of The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s 3rd studio album “Electric Ladyland” released in October, 1968. There’re two versions of the prerecorded reel tapes of this album. The currently listed 1 reel Twin Pak version comes across significantly rarer than the other version recorded on two-reel tapes. There’s also a variation in the design of these editions. The front slick of the currently listed copy’s box uses the photo from the US LP album's back cover. Original 1st edition 4-Track 7½ IPS Stereo reel-to-reel tape was released during the heyday of prerecorded reel-to-reel tapes in the second half of the 60s. The format was oriented towards well-heeled audiophiles as the retail prices of reel tapes were significantly higher than those of LPs. But this wasn’t the only circumstance that attracted audiophiles. Prerecorded reel-to-reel tapes, especially the ones recorded with the 7 ½ IPS speed, had the superior sound quality compared to the other formats. The 7 ½ IPS speed that was used for recording these consumer tapes was already considered professional. The currently listed copy was manufactured and distributed by “The Stereotape Division of Greentree Electronics” which was revived in 1962 for Reprise Records. 1st print “Made in U.S.A.” black cardboard box with the “RST 6307-P” catalog number. The back cover slick features the “Letter to the Room Full of Mirrors” written and signed by Jimi Hendrix at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Denver, Colorado on September 2, 1968. Clear plastic 7” reel with a silver-foil “Electric Ladyland The Jimi Hendrix Experience” sticker with the “RST 6307-P” catalog number and “Twin Pak” banner as well as the original white tab sticker affixing the tape to the reel.

The original black box is in great vintage condition and is graded as Excellent only having a light bumping to the top left corner. The box doesn't have any splits and is fully intact at the corners. The paste over slick is very clean and doesn't have any missing pieces, writing or residue. The sturdy spine contains a fully readable text. The clear plastic reel has a fully intact silver-foil sticker. Some very light age shelf scuffing on both sides of the reel, but other than that, it's is beautiful vintage condition.
