Is this Item a Fake or Counterfeit?

In May of 1958, Alan Freed presented the “Big Beat”. Freed, who coined the phrase “rock and roll”, became popular as an on-air personality for Cleveland’s WJW. He later took his profession to New York, while at the same time, promoted rock and roll concerts. On May 6th, he hosted this show at the R.P.I. Field House in Troy, New York, which included rock and roll greats Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Frankie Lymon, and many others. Any original concert handbill or poster which lists Buddy Holly is extremely rare, as the few existing items are nearly impossible to find.

This boxing style handbill, measuring 5 7/8” x 9”, is on thin uncoated paper stock. It is in mint condition with just a light handling mark in the bottom right corner…we still consider it to be mint. A poster for the “Big Beat” has changed hands for over $30,000. While this is the handbill version, it goes to show how extraordinarily rare this item is!

For co llectors seeking truly vintage posters there is no other source that can match the breadth and authenticity of the collection at Wolfgang's Vault. V isit our eBay store to see our other auctions!
