Flyer/Handbill: 1966 Jefferson Airplane The Matrix Fillmore Era Concert Handbill Flyer
The Matrix was a small venue in the Marina of San Francisco, partially owned by Mary Balin, a member of Jefferson Airplane. The venue opened in August of 1965 and had many of the early San Francisco bands performer there, like Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Great Society, Sopwith Camel, and Big Brother & the Holding Company. Similar to the larger venues like the Fillmore and Avalon Ballroom, the Matrix advertised using flyers and posters, which were later designed by artist Victor Moscoso. When the Airplane came to play beginning May 30th,1966, the club was only charging $0.75 for entrance!
This original handbill, measuring 8” x 10 7/8”, is on thin white paper stock. There is some very minor handling at the top, which comes from the back of the flyer. Otherwise, this handbill is in very nice condition – near mint. This item does not come available often…a great chance to pick up a rare San Francisco handbill.

On Aug-15-17 at 10:20:58 PDT, seller added the following information:It was pointed out to us that the support band, Nazz, was not Todd Rundgren's The Nazz. But rather, it was the band which would change names to Alice Cooper, after hearing of Rundgren's band of the same name. Unfortunately, we cannot change the title of this listing at this point in the auction though.
