Recorded live at the famous MARQUEE CLUB in London, here we have the truly iconic LP "Five Live Yardbirds" from........THE YARDBIRDS!!!! Produced by GIORGIO GOMELSKY and featuring the mercurial guitar skills of the young ERIC 'SLOWHAND' CLAPTON, there can be no doubt that this fantastic gem is right up there with Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated's "R&B From The Marquee" as one of the most important, seminal British Blues albums ever released!!!
Packed with covers of standards from the songbooks of US Blues legends including Howlin' Wolf, Chuck Berry, John Lee Hooker and Bo Diddley, the five 'most Blueswailing' Yardbirds absolutely tear they way through a high-octane set that, instead of being contrived for the 'commercial purposes' of an LP release, weas at the time truly reflective of the set they would have performed at this early stage of their musical progression; i.e. before their own songwriting skills had developed.
Upon its release in 1964, sales of "Five Live Yardbirds" were not vast - the group were yet to score a chart success - and so only a relatively small number of first press copies found their way into circulation, meaning they rarely get offered almost 50 years on!!! Of course, you could always settle for a later pressing, one of the cheap repros that have kicked around for a few years now or, if digital is your 'bag', a CD - God forbid......
The personnel line-up on these truly fantastic recordings is as follows: KEITH RELF (vocals, harmonica), ERIC 'SLOWHAND' CLAPTON (lead guitar), CHRIS DREJA (rhythm guitar), PAUL SAMWELL-SMITH (bass guitar) and JIM McCARTY (drums).
So, bid now to win this gem or, after the auction has ended, you can sit back in your chair and wonder how you managed to let this MONSTER MOD R&B PSYCH RARITY pass you by!!!
Use the Auctionplayer to sample for yourself just how amazing this LP truly is!!!
As you'll see from the photo, this is unconditionally guaranteed to be the ORIGINAL 1964 UK pressing made with machine-stamped matrices, so you can forget about having to settle for one of those dodgy so-called "limited re-pressings" (many of which are actually bootlegs) that are flooding the market.
A TRULY fantastic and legendary LP, any fan of The Yardbirds, Eric Clapton, the Mod, R&B, Psych and British Invasion scenes or 60s music in general will simply have to have this item in their collection!!!!
Grade (labels): The classic black labels with blue 'Magic Notes' logo, silver print and 'Sold in the UK.....' text can be clearly seen in the photo. Both labels are in STUNNING condition; there is absolutely NO wear and NO spindle marks on Side 1 which is AWESOME!!! There is just one very tiny spindle mark on Side 2, which is otherwise AWESOME!!!!
Grade (vinyl): Housed within its original super-crisp 'Emitex' polylined inner bag, this vinyl masterpiece is beautiful and strictly graded at EXCELLENT ++++; absolutely gleaming with just a couple of non-sounding surface rubs (probably from a brush with a fingernail) towards the end of Side 2. Sitting perfectly flat on the turntable, the deep-grooved platter has a glorious sheen and plays wonderfully loud and clear throughout. Of course, with the hyper-sensitivity of modern styli and amplifiers, any lucky winning bidder would need to accept the possibility of a near 50-year old hunk of used vinyl producing a touch of general noise and static here and there. The stampers, as provided further up this listing, are early!!!! Good luck in finding another one of these nuggets......... they just do NOT turn up very often in this shape!!!!
Grade (sleeve): The original Garrod and Lofthouse sleeve with laminated front, flipbacks and a matt reverse is in overall MINT minus shape!! The front is absolutely stunning, and the back is also in absolutely tremendous shape!!! For those who love to know such detail, this is the very first - 'Patents Pending' - press of the sleeve!!!
Why buy?: This is an absolute ICONIC MONSTER of a MOD R&B PSYCH gem and always so incredibly sought-after!! Truly a KILLINGLY RARE LP and ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND in ANY condition, don't miss this incredible example as it might be your only chance to buy an ORIGINAL 1964UK LP pressing of "Five Live Yardbirds" by The Yardbirds in magnificent condition!!!
Don't forget: Look to see if I have other rare items on auction at the present time.
Check out my feedback and be sure of a great product and service. Happy bidding!!!
BEFORE you bid, please read the following Payment and Shipping terms very carefully and, quite simply, don't make a bid if you're not happy with them:
Payment: UK cheques or UK direct bank transfers greatly preferred. Of course, PayPal is accepted but bidders must accept the associated, non-negotiable shipping terms as stated below in "Shipping".
Shipping: Kindly note that the STAMP cost that appears on the label outside of a package absolutely does NOT represent the actual cost of shipping an item!!! For example, each item I sell is carefully packaged inside a PVC sleeve, with factory-cut cardboard stiffeners either side and (to ensure the item arrives in the condition it leaves) shipped individually in a brand new record mailer; unlike some other sellers I do NOT use poor packaging with scrap cardboard - or worse still NO cardboard - inside!
I cannot accept any responsibility for payments/items lost or damaged and not covered by adequate insurance. If you do insist on using PayPal through the eBay checkout, the consequence of PayPal's rigid conditions is that all items must be sent by an adequately insured shipping method with proof of delivery; no exceptions. So, for UK buyers that will mean Recorded Delivery up to a value of £51 and Special Delivery (cost £9.95) for anything of a higher value. For overseas buyers, on items up to a value of £500, it will mean Royal Mail 'International Signed-For' Airmail at a cost of £14.95 to European Union countries and £19.95 to all other countries. Due to PayPal seller policies and Royal Mail compensation limits, items above a value of £500 will have to be shipped by international courier at a cost to determined, based upon final value and destination.
I do NOT allow personal collection.
Note: I'm just a private individual selling off his private record collection gathered over 30+ years. I am NOT a business!!! I unreservedly retain the right to cancel bids from known defaulters or timewasters. The items I offer for auction are rare and of the highest quality, so please bid with respect!!
