The Golden Knight premiered on October 4, 1962 at the Orange Theater in Orange, California.

Composer and lyricist Glenn Wescott was then 30 years old. He had grown up and been educated in the Bay Area, where he was active in variety shows and theater while at City College of San Francisco. He moved to Orange County in 1957 and had written background scores for productions of the Newport Harbor Community Players. On the front of the jacket Wescott has written: "To Bill Donaldson in remembrance of the good days on the ranch. Glenn Wescott".

My research shows that Wescott followed up on The Golden Knight with 1966's "little man in search of his serious side" (based on the work of cartoonist Jules Feiffer), 1971's "Irving" (about a computer with a mind of its own), and 1990's "Flapdoodle!" (a musical review). Wescott eventually became an elementary school teacher in the Saddleback Valley Unified School District. He has written over 700 songs.

The Golden Knight is a light hearted musical comedy, possibly a spoof of the then enormously popular Lerner and Loewe Broadway show, Camelot (which had premiered in 1960). It is set in the Kingdom of Hysterilee, in the year 1262, and features characters with such silly names as Princess Prim, Sir Sneakabout, Hopeaheap, Gripealot, Laughalot, and Lady Mirror. The songs on this record are sung by the original cast, accompanied by piano. The tunes are quite charming.
