WOW!! For sale is an incredibly rare promotional copy of Carole King’s 1971 landmark album Tapestry in STUNNING condition! Appears rarely, if ever played. This album is positively iconic, winning four Grammys in 1972 including Best Album Of The Year and is one of the best selling albums of all time!
This particular copy however is a VERY RARE promo copy with promotional labels…one of the earliest copies- almost certainly one of the first few hundred ever pressed and given to DJ’s and reviewers around the country before it’s initial release.
I have never seen or handled another promo copy of this album in my 25 years of collecting, buying and selling records.
Truly a rare and desirable pressing…and also one of the absolute BEST sounding pressings of this album that there has ever been! This was mastered and cut by the legendary Bernie Grundman and this promo copy is on very quiet virgin vinyl and pressed at the Monarch pressing plant in LA. The Monarch promo variant has not even been catalogued on Discogs yet.
Monarch pressings are known for their superior sound and are highly sought after.
I grade FAIRLY and ACCURATELY under bright lighting- read my 100% positive feedback and rest assured that when I say NM, I mean NM! :)
Sleeve: VG+ to (strong) VG
Beautiful crisp, textured gatefold sleeve has no major creases or bends. The fragile thin front of the gatefold has remained intact with no creases and as with every copy I’ve handled has a small curve to it as it closes over. There is a promotional punch hole and a small sticker used for station identification affixed to the front. I have not attempted to remove this, though it’s very possible and seems quite easy. There is some rubbing to the seams and lower spine, as well as a few marks along the front but absolutely no splits of any kind. A faint upside down V has been written in pencil at the bottom rear. Some may grade this VG instantly due to the promotional punch hole, but on a promotional copy that seems silly to me. Overall a very nice example!See pics and see for yourself!
Disc: EX+ to NM-
GORGEOUS disc retains all of it’s glossy sheen. I would conservatively grade this EX+, but this is a true stunner. There are no actual scratches or scuffs and only the faintest sleeve removal traces and a couple of very faint superficial marks only visible when tilted under very bright direct light. A top copy for any version of the album, but no doubt one of the nicest promo copies in existence.
Labels: NM- to EX+
BEAUTIFUL white promo labels have NO unwanted writing or marks. PROMOTION COPY NOT FOR SALE appears above STEREO on the left hand side. There is a mark along the Side One label visible really only when tilted at the right angle.
Original black and white company inner sleeve is included and in great crisp condition with only a small split beginning at the bottom seam and some wrinkles.
