"ELTON JOHN - THE THOM BELL SESSIONS '77" Original 2016 EU limited edition 3 -track 12" vinyl single, exclusively released for Record Store Day 2016. On THE ROCKET RECORD COMPANY label. Catalogue No: 00602547614513. Barcode: 602547614513.
Following a temporary hiatus in his partnership with longtime lyricist Bernie Taupin, Elton John turned to producer Thom Bell and the warm sounds of Philly soul for his next step. Bell was already a name producer for his work with some of the decade’s biggest R&B acts such as the Spinners, the Stylistics and the Detroit Spinners and, while recorded in 1977, the fruits of their collaboration would not find an official release until 1979 by which time Elton’s ever-restless muse had already moved on. They were not, however, destined to languish in obscurity and by the late 1990s copies of the original 12” of the sessions were changing hands for silly money among house heads. In 2003 Ashley Beedle’s spirited remix of the lead track ‘Are You Ready For Love’ gave Elton a much-deserved Number 1 single. For Record Store Day 2016 they’re once again available in all their full-length glory on this 3 track black vinyl release.

I grade the records visually but strictly. Gradings are according to UK Record Collector's magazine grading system. The standard condition categories and a description of what each ones means are listed below. Please take a look. MINT (M): The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or detorioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.
EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced. Thanks for looking! Please see my other auctions too!
