Grateful Dead Fans ! Have you heard it ? ... and were You there ! Wow .. .. .. I don't even really know where to pick a place to start - with this Huge ! 2-CD Set, which Effectively ! - and Beyond ! compiles the " Very Best ! " of the Grateful Dead Spring '90 Box Set ! Hmmm ... I mean seriously, what can even be said about this Set - that it doesn't already say ' Musically ' for itself ?! Well ... let's put it this way - the Humongous ! G.D. Spring '90 Tour was pretty-much a ' Culmination ' of what many, and most-all of us like to refer to as ... '80's Dead ! This set really is the " Exclamation Point " ( ! ) if I may on the 1979 to 1990 " Brent-Era " Grateful Dead. And, in the past - when Folks ask me what it is & ' why ' I prefer '80's G.D .... my answers are usually something like the following, in any order really - depending on the mood I'm in ! One reason ... Song-Selection ! - another ... It's the best ' Band ' Ever ! - another ... This unit played 11-Years ! together ! - another ... This is Rock & Roll ! - another ... ' Double-Drummers ' for 11-Years straight ! - another ... Boss-Roland Equipment ! - another ... with Heavy-distortion used Properly ! - another ... So-many Massive-' Stadium Shows ' made the Boys Push ! - another ... the more-significant Dylan influence ! - another ... the ' Pre-Midi ' Era - with Tone straight ! through the Cones ( for, at least ' most ' of the '80's - Pre-Spring Tour '88 ) - another ... the Heavy-presence of the Phil Zone - another ... Bobby Weir ! ( Hah ! ) - another ... Brent ! - another ... Garcia ! - and his Mean ! Tone ! See what I mean ? I could keep goin' on & on & on ... but, you get the drift. I mean really ... this set truly-captures the ' Culmination ' of all of this - at it's Highest-point ... and especially, as far as the Highest-point of Fan-Excitement & Anticipation ! I mean people, these were the days when you would send your Mailorder to GDTS on the 1st day ... and sometimes - would Still ! get shut-out. Next thing you know ... you're diggin' in the back of the Washington Post classified ads - for Tickets !?! This Band was So-Hot ! in this Era, that's it's almost hard to even put into works ... so Thankfully ! this 2-CD Set does it for us Musically ! - as, that's what it's really all-about anyways ... The Music. Wes Land " Native American " Artwork on the Cover ! - and, on the backside ? Wow ... just get a load of this ! >>> CD 1 : LTGTR - Stranger - West L.A. - Easy To Love You - BIODTL - Loser - All Over Now - Jack-A-Roe - Last Time - Bird Song - Blow Away ! and ... CD 2 : Samson - Scarlet > Fire - Estimated - Playin' > Eyes - Gimmie Some Lovin' > Morning Dew, NFA & Attics ! Spring '89 ? - Summer '89 ? - Fall '89 ? - Summer '90 ? - Spring '90 ! What else can I say ... but this stuff is Insane ! The material, the delivery, the emotion, the tone, the Fun ! - it is truly a Culmination of the Grateful Dead at definitely " one-of " their Primes ! And, arguably ... at the ' Prime '. I mean hey, see all reasons stated-above - at least in my mind, and to my ears. Enjoy this Amazing ! Spring '90 Smoker ! of a G.D. Set !
