Franklin Mint ‘The Greatest Jazz Recordings of All Time’

The history of jazz up to 1986 on 100 burgundy-coloured LPs (25 boxes in the set, four LPs per box).

Each box is dedicated to a theme and in some cases individual artists. The first box, for example, covers Louis Armstrong and Roy Eldridge.

The surfaces are quiet and the pressings impressive.

The recordings date back to the early acoustic era and are culled from pretty much every label that ever released jazz. The boxes are based on theme and are mostly chronological within those themes, This release seems to have been a real labor of love for Dan Morgenstern, the director of the Institute of Jazz Studies.

ALL main jazz artists are listed on these records: Fletcher Henderson, Buddy Rich, Louis Armstrong, Teddie Wilson, Cab Calloway, Helen Merrill, Dinah Washington, Fats Waller, Art Tatum, Coleman Hawkins, Billie Holiday, Lester Young, Lucky Thompson, Duke Ellington, King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton, Sidney Bechet, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, Wes Montgomery, Joe Venuti, Stephane Grappelli, Ahmad Jamal, Gerry Mulligan, Don Byas, Ornette Coleman, Thad Jones, Dizzy Gllespie, Charlie Parker, Pee Wee Russell, Ben Webster, Blind Lemon Jefferson, John Lee Hooker, Ma Rainey, Muddy Waters, Count Basie, Stan Getz, Zoot Sims, Sonny Rollins, Max Roach, John Coltrane, Pepper Adams, Tommy Flanagan, Eric Dolphy, Bill Evans, Ella Fitzgerald, Horace Silver, Cannonball Adderley, Kenny Dorham, Art Farmer, Ornette Coleman, Cecil Taylor, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Sun Ra, Anthony Braxton, Keith Jarrett, Jackie MacLean, etc. etc.

This must be the greatest overview of jazz history on record ever made! Includes rare recordings that are no longer available
