Reel-to-reel: Larry Norman - Original Master Tapes for In Another Land

In the mid-'70s Larry Norman was in London visiting his friends George and Meg Patterson when he met the celebrated recording engineer Andy Johns. Andy had engineered some of the decade's best and biggest records (The Rolling Stones' Exile on Main Street and Goats Head Soup, Led Zeppelin's fourth album "Zoso" and Houses of the Holy among many others.The Stones guitarist Keith Richards had introduced Andy and his wife to heroin, and Andy and his wife had been addicts for a few years when they met Larry. Andy said he was trying to kick his addiction, but it was hard to move in the circles of British rock stardom and not be tempted daily. Larry thought he could help. He offered to fly Andy and his wife to Los Angeles and hire Andy to produce his next record. Larry said he would keep them out of the L.A. drug scene and keep them busy. It worked. The biggest selling (reported) album of Larry Norman's career was In Another Land . It marked Larry's debut as a legitimately talented producer, and yet again cemented his reputation in the milieu of Christian music as an artist operating in the vanguard of what one could do song-wise in that cloistered world. It was the result of two artists at the top of their abilities collaborating on one project. Larry and Andy.

This auction is for the physical master tapes of the album. The actual tape that Larry and Andy mixed the songs to. They are not copies. They are the original first generation tapes. The source from which all copies (vinyl records, cassettes, and later CDs and digital files) would come from. It has the purest fidelity of any of the formats. But they are more than that.

They are artifacts from a bygone era; the end of Jesus Music and the beginning of CCM. This set comes with 2 reels (sides A and B of the album), the boxes with track order, and Andy and Larry's notes to the mastering technician.
