Recorded at Radio Recorders and The Paramount Scoring Stage, Hollywood, California, Recording information: 01/15/1958-02/11/1958. Elvis Presley's fourth movie, KING CREOLE, is by most critics' assessments his best. A good script, a strong supporting cast and an outstanding soundtrack contributed to provide Elvis with his best opportunity at serious film acting, and the King rose to the occasion. The legendary songwriting team of Leiber and Stoller contributed three songs to KING CREOLE, among them the title track and "Trouble," a number Presley would reprise with tremendous success during his 1969 comeback television special."Hard Headed Woman" is the soundtrack's biggest hit (it stayed atop the Billboard pop chart for two weeks), but the songs are uniformly strong throughout, and Presley sings with the mastery and dynamism characteristic of nearly all his 1950s recordings. It was the last movie Elvis made before entering the army and features him in a serious dramatic role, rather than the light romantic comedies he would soon become known for in the early 60's. The album includes songs written and recorded expressly for the film and followed the film release by over ten weeks. The album peaked at #2 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart. Elvis Presley had said in interviews that of all the 30 odd pictures he had made "King Creole" was his personal favorite.

FTD’s “Classic Album” series continues with “King Creole”. This 2-CD set features the original RCA masters, unique Thorne Nogar live monitor mixes* many of which contain slates, and original song demos. It features a 16-page booklet featuring great photos, behind-the-scenes chronology and memorabilia.

In 1958, after several chart topping albums and a bevy of number one singles, more incredible fame followed as the King Creole movie starring Elvis Presley became a box office smash. The soundtrack, filled with more hits than a New Orleans jukebox, also was a blockbuster as it topped the charts, making this his 6th smash album in a row! Both the King Creole movie and soundtrack LP truly proved once again that his career was unlike any other in music history.
