RARE HISTORIC Elton John From Russia with USSR 1979 tour concert poster
More photos and detail to be added soon!

Very rare and historic Russian poster from Elton John's tour of the Soviet Union in 1979. This was a historic tour because he was the first western artiste to perform in the Soviet Union - this was still the Cold War era. When I contacted Bonhams a few years ago to ask about this poster they told me that it was very rare - the only 3 they had seen belonged to Sir Elton himself (when he auctioned off a lot of his possessions a few years ago) and members of his crew. This poster came from a Sotheby's country house sale at the house of the late Sally, Duchess of Westminster. It is screenprinted, with orange patterning and red and blue lettering on a creamy white background, with two photographs of Elton John in bluescale. The words are all in Russian. It's a very attractive and unusual concert poster, looking a bit like a vintage circus poster in style. The condition is fair/damaged - the edges of the poster have been trimmed or folded over to make it fit the tall frame, and there is a some water staining on some parts of the edge - see photos (I will add more detail soon). However, it is very rare - the only other one I've seen a picture of is a much plainer style than this and does not have the photographs of Elton John.
I have never tried taking the poster out of the frame but it should be possible to remove it and post this without the frame, rolled up, or if you prefer I could leave it in the frame and buyer could collect from Liverpool or, if you were prepared to wait a few weeks until we can get someone to drive it down south, from a relative's address in North London. I think you will probably want to get it reframed anyway as the existing frame isn't anything special - we've just kept it in there for convenience and display. It doesn't have glass.
Overseas bidders please contact me - I'm not sure if I can get insured delivery overseas but I will find out if you are interested. I will only post to insured and signed for destinations.
