You are bidding on a promotional Verve Records, East Coast Bloomingfield, NJ Mono Pressing of The Velvet Underground & Nico. We are calling this 1966 instead of 1967 (as previous sellers have done when addressing the DJ/Promo version of this record) because the DJ/Promo copies with Yellow / Black “Disc Jockey Records NOT FOR SALE” misprint labels were pressed and shipped to radio stations in 1966, three months before the commercial copies official release date in March of 1967.

Excellent condition 1st State uncensored “torso” promotional gatefold. It seems that fewer than 1000 were pressed with this label for DJs.

Uncensored 1st State cover, also known as the “Torso” cover shows the fully visible and un-airbrushed torso of Eric Emerson projected on the wall behind the band on the rear cover. Also includes excellent original Verve paper inner sleeve though we’ve put the vinyl into an anti-static/archival inner sleeve.

This promotional copy was pressed in Bloomingfield, NJ and contains the East Coast yellow/black promotional version “Disc Jockey Record NOT FOR SALE” labels with the T-shape Verve Records logo, “V-5008” Mono catalog number and the misprint indicating the timing of “I’ll Be Your Mirror” as 2:01 instead of the correct 2:10. The MGM Records “Made in U.S.A.” with credits reading “Prod. by Andy Warhol” on both sides. Bloomingfield, New Jersey plant pressing with the blocky “S” symbol engraved in runout and 1/1 mother stampers with the full 1st matrix number as follows on side one: “V5008 SIDE1 MG558REV” followed by blocky “S” symbol. Side two: “V5008 SIDE2 MG559 11” followed by “8” symbol.

This record was purchased from a radio DJ’s estate along with other DJ copy lps. It would appear he only got as far as attempting to peel the banana sticker and didn’t listen to this record. The vinyl is excellent, shiny, no signs of ever being played. We believe it was simply stored with other records he received for free and not something he chose to play at home or on his show. It’s hard to imagine a cleaner example. Stunning.

We are professional record dealers and you may message us here or on Instagram at Grapefruitrecs with further questions.
