I am offering a rare original 4-track reel-to-reel tape of George Solti conducting the RCA Italiana Orchestra and Chorus in Verdi's Rigoletto. The soloists include Robert Merrill, Anna Moffo, Alfredo Kraus, Rosalind Elias, and many more. These quarter-track tapes were issued starting in the early 1960's as successors to the famous half-track reels of the late 1950's and were expensive at the time. This is a set of two tapes recorded at 7 1/2 ips for the highest quality. This is an RCA Living Stereo recording that certainly lives up to its brand name. The sound is really impressive.
The box is in excellent condition. There are no splits or writing. There is some wear from being handled. There is a small sticker pull tear on the front of the box and two inner flaps are missing. I play-tested the tapes on my Technics 1506 reel-to-reel recorder. The tape plays great. There are no drop-outs I heard. The performance is complete. The buyer should be extremely careful when handling this or any tape of this vintage, keeping in mind they are over 55 years old. Mishandling can cause breakage.
