Safety Master - protection copy from an FM radio station archives when they switched from classical to pop. During the 1980's when digitizing audio from analog tapes first appeared, many studios and major label companies destroyed their original distribution analog masters tapes but first made several copies of the master tape before they transferred them onto digital format. These are called safety copies of the analog masters. These are ¼” tapes on 10½” reels, using 2 tracks at 15 ips.
