Rare WWII era 15-78 set from the Music Branch of the Special Services Division of the War Department, best known for running the V-Disc program.
MODERN AMERICAN COMPOSERS (CL-1 through CL-15) features a myriad of compositions by current (1945 era) classical and light classical composers performed by the top US Orchestras, including the Boston Symphony, NBC Symphony, Janssen Symphony of Los Angeles, and the Columbia Symphony, Works by Samuel Barber, Aaron Copland, Walter Schumann, Morton Gould, Wallingford Riegger, Arthur Foote, Howard Hanson, William Schuman, and many others. Of special interest is a disc of music by ALEC WILDER conducted by FRANK SINATRA. Many of the performances are from radio broadcasts and never issued commercially. Apparently the set was designed to educate the American soldier in the latest homegrown classical music trends.
The records are in excellent condition, all bearing a specially designed label and the enclosing clothbound album was very well kept, with just light shelf wear.
